So Kaitlyn ended up sicker than I thought so I ended up taking two
days off of work to take care of her. Her fever would not go away and I
realized that where I may be the calm collected kindergarten teacher
when emergency arise at school, I am not the calm collected mother by
any means. I was freaking out! When K's temp got all the way to 104 I
almost called 911, but managed to call the doctor's office instead. I
was bawling on the phone asking them if I need to take her to the
hospital. They told me I could come in at 4:45, which was not what I
wanted to hear considering it was only 2:00. I was asking them if it
was safe for her fever to be that high and they were saying, "Oh, it's
fine. Just give her some motrin and fluid." Well no duh - I had been
doing that for two days now. Of course I know they were just doing
their job, but I wanted my baby to be okay. So I did what they said and
then put her back to bed. All she wanted to do was sleep. So then I
had to wait. I felt helpless. Here I was - her mother - and I couldn't
fix it for her. I felt like I should be in the kitchen making
something that would make this all go away. I could not sit still for
anything. So I cleaned....and cleaned...and cleaned some more. There
was some rearranging too - and some laundry. I was a machine I'm
telling you. I had been doing the same thing each time she napped the
past two days. I just felt guilty sitting still. Needless to say our
house would be spotless if I worried all the time. :)
I
just cannot wait until she gets a little older and can tell me what
hurts her or tell her she must drink whether she likes it or not. This
age and sickness scares me so much. I know I'm just another crazy mom
being - well, a crazy mom, but I can't help it. It does make me
understand my kinder parents a bit more when they are so worried!
But
good news so far today - she has been fever free and drank two sippy
cups of milk without a problem. I've also been chopping up some
popsicles and she is loving that! I'm going to keep her hydrated one
way or another! Thanks to everyone that has been praying!! Looks like
she's well on her way to recovery!

Not So Fun Weekend
I cleared my camera of lots of pictures this past week because I knew
I was going to take a zillion this weekend. We had planned on taking
Kaitlyn to a pumpkin patch in Grapevine Saturday with some friends and
then our church has a HUGE carnival called First Fest that was this
Sunday. I love the fall and Halloween so I was just so excited to get
Kaitlyn out in all of it. We couldn't last year because she was so
little and on "lock-down" orders from her doctor.
Then Saturday morning came....
Cody woke her up and I was in the kitchen baking some muffins. Cody said when he woke her up her body felt really hot so he took her temperature. It was 101.6. Not good I'm thinking, but I fed her breakfast anyway because she was laughing and carrying on like nothing was bothering her. Then after breakfast I took her temp again - it was now over 102, so Cody called the doctor and off we went. Of course now I'm just about crying and thinking she has H1N1 or something worse. But the doctor tested for it and the test came back negative. He checked her ears, nose, and throat and they all looked good. So he said it was probably something viral in which case there was nothing we could do but wait it out.
So, no pumpkin patch or carnival for Kaitlyn. Number one she needed to get better and number two I don't want her to give this little bug to anyone else. She's been in the best mood all weekend though. Her appetite has been great, but she hasn't been drinking much which freaked me out because I don't want her getting dehydrated. We tried gatoraide, pedialyte, and even sprite. She didn't want any of it. So when she wouldn't even drink her normal water that she loves I started forcing it down with a syringe. Needless to say that didn't make her too happy, but it kept her hydrated! Today her temp spiked back up to 103.5, but after some Motrin again it went back down and has stayed down since. I'm still keeping her home tomorrow because I want to make sure she's better.
This just goes to show you have to roll with the punches. I can plan and plan all I want, but there is always going to be something that can kink it up. As for the pictures...I'm going to get some somehow. She will only be this small this year and I can't pass that up. There are several pumpkin patches that stay open until dusk so maybe one day this week she'll be better and the weather will be nice. I can't get the carnival ones, but she'll be in her costume on Halloween night. It does bum me out that we couldn't get all the cute pictures with our friends, but I am just so very thankful that she is going to be okay and it wasn't something worse than it is.

Cadie's Birthday Party
August 29th was Kaitlyn's cousin's
first birthday party. Cadie and Kaitlyn are only 13 days apart which
will be fun for them growing up. Cadie's party was so much fun! It was
good practice for Kaitlyn's which wasn't too far off! Aunt Heather
also had fun making a cupcake bow to go with Cadie's cupcake themed
party! :)Cadie had the bag opening thing down! :)"I got this mama!"Digging in!
Can you tell she missed her afternoon nap?Cadie's turn to get upset
Trying to get the bow back in
Such a funny picture!
She was loving that balloon!

Photo Shoot...sort of
I have no knowledge of taking
pictures whatsoever, but I still have fun playing around with my camera
and photoshop. Here are a few that I took back on August 2nd. I really
do want to take a class someday soon so I can actually know what I'm
doing!
1st Birthday Invitation
Dancing Outside
I was trying to take pictures of Kaitlyn outside for her birthday
invitation(yes, it was the end of July and her birthday is in September,
but I'm a crazy planner like that), but I never did get just the right
shot. She was in such a good mood though and kept dancing her little
sway dance the entire time. I just LOVE this picture because it is so
her!
Food for Thought
So Kaitlyn's doctor said we should be giving her all types of food and
letting her "play" a little bit so she can feel the different textures
and what not. This is oh so very hard for me because I want to clean up
every little bit as soon as she gets even the slightest bit messy. But
I am getting better and I think this day was a big step. This was on
July 28th and I let her have ravioli for the first time - well, the real
kind anyway. She never really liked the toddler kind - it's just too
bland. Cody said she looked like a cannibal in these pictures. Don't
worry though - I took her right to the bath tub after lunch! And just
in case you're wondering, the other little pieces on her tray are
apples. :)
Play Date
Kaitlyn had her first real play date
with kids that belong to two of my favorite people in the world.
This was back on July 27th (I know, I'm horrible for just now posting
these) Kelly and Melanie both used to teach with me when I first got my
job. They were so wonderful and welcoming and even though they both
moved to other districts now we still keep in touch. Mel has moved to
Tyler so we wanted to get the kids together before she officially left.
Her daughter, Hunter, is the other girl that was staying with Kaitlyn
during the day at her sitter. So Hunter was really Kaitlyn's first
friend. It makes me sad that they are leaving, but I know we'll keep in
touch and have visits every now and then! This is Kaitlyn with Jacob - he belong to my friend KellyJacob and his mama Kelly

Whoa!
Has it really been since July that I posted?? Wow. I'm officially a
horrible blogger. But today I'm home sick and bored out of my mind so
hopefully I can get some posts up. I love reading everyone else's too -
I've been behind on that as well. I have such incredible friends and I
love reading about all their adventures! Hopefully as school gets into
more of a routine I can stay up to date on Kaitlyn's blog! We'll
see.... :)
